April 6th, 2011Things have slowed down for us as other life priorities have shown up, but we’re still playing here and there. We’ve had a few practices in March/April and will be playing at the Bradley University “24 Hours of Music” in Peoria, IL from 8-9PM. More info on the Shows page.

January 28th, 2010This Saturday at 9PM sharp, Backyard Shark will be making a brief appearance at a ‘Faster Forward and Friends’ show at Memphis on Main in downtown Champaign. Check the shows page for more details!

January 3rd, 2010Tony finished up the Bass Guitar tracks in a short day and a half…. The man’s a pro.

Recording: Drums
December 15th, 2009Recording for our first official release has begun. Jeff and Eddie tracked all of the scratch tracks and drum parts. Next up is Bass Guitar with Tony after the first of the year.
Recording Schedule
November 16th, 2009We’ve been planning our newest album “Chinese Democracy” “Banjaflutatales” (err…. maybe something else) for the past 2 3 years… and haven’t actually gotten jack shit a lot planned done.
We’ll begin recording in our own “Rosewood Recording Studio” starting the middle of December hopefully wrapping up the entire process sometime this spring. If we’re on top of things lucky we’ll have a release party this fall when school gets back in session.

Summer Update…

Ok… where do we start? - I know the most hardcore fans found the most recent photos from Cowboy Monkey – I’m glad you did because we’re just now getting around to saying “Hey – they’re online!”.
Anyway – the show went great – the other bands were fantastic, we were shark-tastic, and we had a surprise visit from some Peoria fans (now dubbed the ‘Peoria Sharkettes’). They braved a monsoon and drove 1,432,532 (or so) miles to make the Backyard Shark show.
Hard. Core.
Alright, alright – so here’s what’s new:
New music is being written. We just ran through the newest tune tonight at practice and it’s killer… you have no idea what’s in store for you.
Recording: It’s the never ending project. I think we’ll call the record ‘Chinese Democracy’ (can we get sued for that?). The update is: we’re still working on it and planning on how to do it with all the band members spread around IL.
Shows: We have a few shows coming up. The most amazing of which will be at Bentley’s Pub on July 25th. We’re playing with ‘Faster Forward’ (with yours truly on drums). Faster Forward is a new band in town headed by a great songwriter named John Caparoon. We highly recommend you come check out the show – if not for us, for Faster Forward.
